Remember: The 16 digit app specific password generated by Google must be entered without any spaces and using the correct case. The password that Google displays as “tifc veay fioe tmsc”, must be entered into the app as: “tifcveayfioetmsc”

Google advise against using what they term as the ‘Less Secure Apps’ option and installing non-GooglePlay apps which Google refer to as ‘Untrusted Sources’. However, should you select this option please be aware that it can take up to 15 minutes to begin working.

Password-less Authentication: OAuth2 To connect without a password: Set ‘Use Password’ to OFF This option traditionally used by our GMail users, while fully implemented no longer works because Google expired the OAuth accounts of legacy apps. We have been invited by Google to apply to re-join the OAuth programme, and hope this option will work again in the future. Notes:

All 3 options make an encrypted socket connection directly to your mail server using Javamail which was originally developed by Sun Microsystems, as long as the setting ‘Use TLS’ is set to ON
Confirmed on Jun 23 2024 that options 1 and 2 are working.

Tips:

We added a ‘show’ feature to the password dialogue to reveal the password to make it easier for users to enter app specific passwords.
Remember to press ‘Check Connection’ to verify the connection.
